With the summer heat just around the corner, New York State has launched an air conditioning grant program!

To help eligible residents cope with the summer heat, New York State offers air conditioner and fan grants through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP). This benefit covers the cost of equipment purchase and installation to help you stay cool in the summer.
Grant Details:
- Air conditioning subsidy: Eligible residents may receive up to $800 for the purchase of a window or portable air conditioner or fan, which includes the cost of installing the window air conditioner.
- Through-the-wall air conditioning: Households with existing through-the-wall air conditioning units can receive up to $1000.
Application Eligibility:
- income level: Need to meet HEAP eligibility criteria and income level.
- Equipment Requirements: Only one unit per household may be applied for. Other conditions include no available air conditioner in the home, or the existing air conditioner has been in use for more than five years.
Application time:
- opening hours (of a theater, stadium, gymnasium etc): From April 15th to August 31st.
Barbara C. Guinn, Acting Director of the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, told PIX11 News, "This program is designed to help New Yorkers cope with the summer heat. We encourage all eligible residents to apply as soon as possible to ensure that their air conditioning is installed before the hot weather sets in."
